Facebook Ad Lead Follow-Up: Routing, Consent and Duplicates

Following up Facebook ad leads with AI comes down to three jobs done before any message goes out: route each lead by where it came from, check what the person agreed to, and remove duplicates. Only then does a drafted follow-up make sense. The workflow does not make the ads perform; it handles the leads they produce.

Route by source

A lead from a quote-request ad is different from one from a free-guide ad, and the follow-up should reflect that. Record the campaign, ad or form name against each lead and give each source its own approved wording and its own next step, such as a booking link or a simple thank-you.

Check consent

Look at the wording on the lead form. If it said you would call, do not email a newsletter. If the form did not mention WhatsApp, do not start a WhatsApp thread. Keep a record of what was agreed, and honour opt-outs straight away. If you are unsure what the law requires for your situation, take proper advice.

Deduplicate

The same person may submit twice, use two emails, or reappear from another ad. Decide the matching rules: for example, same phone number or same email counts as one lead, with the newest answers kept. Flag near-matches for a person instead of merging them automatically.

Hypothetical worked example

Picture a personal trainer running two lead-form ads: one for a small-group class, one for one-to-one sessions. The workflow sends each lead into the matching list. A new lead receives an approved thank-you and one question about their goal. A lead whose phone number matches an existing record is flagged, not duplicated, and the trainer sees both submissions together. Only leads who agreed to a call are put on the call list. The trainer reviews the first batch of drafts before anything is sent. This scenario is invented.

Testing

Submit test leads from every form, twice, with variations in spelling and a missing field. Check that each lands in the right route and that nothing fires twice.

Limits

The setup depends on your ad account, tools, access, agreed scope and monitoring. No guaranteed bookings, instant replies or ad results are promised.

Questions people ask

Can AI reply to a lead straight away?

An acknowledgement can be set up where tools allow it and wording is approved. Anything beyond that is a choice to agree and test.

What happens to leads that do not respond?

You set a limited follow-up pattern, after which the lead is parked for you to decide.

Does this improve my ads?

No. It deals with the leads after they arrive.
